Hard.
I love the smell of Public Relations. It gives me pleasure in seeing how much Nintards can swallow bullshit.
If we trace Sonic’s third-party roots all the way back to just after the Dreamcast, we released Sonic Adventure 2: Battle on the GameCube and it did phenomenally well. We think that’s because there was a lot of overlap between the Sonic/Sega and Nintendo crowd at that time, and we just found historically that Sonic performs really, really well on Nintendo platforms. Sonic Colors did great, Sonic and the Black Knight did well and Sonic and Secret Rings did well — all Nintendo. When we look at the numbers, we thought — this is clearly where our audience is.
SA2 also sold well over PSN and Live, making sales charts for 2 months in a row. Sonic 06 sold well enough to make Platinum hits, same for Sonic Unleashed. None of the Wii Sonic games even made Nintendo Selects.
SA2 sells because it’s a quality Sonic title. Not because it has “the most fans on it’s platform.” If people want it badly enough, they will go where ever it is. People wanted Minecraft, they went straight for Xbox 360. People wanted NSMBW, they went straight for Wii. People DEFINITELY wanted Sonic 06, so they go straight for that. Wii owners were looking at SR as a sad disappointment until the “Metacritic to the rescue!” phase rolled in. Shit, I’d be willing to bet the Sonic fans are all on the 360 now because of 06.
Even then, they’re ignoring the fact that the Wii’s install base was that much bigger than the HD twins, giving Sonic a significant advantage on that system than otherwise. Along with the DS because… who the fuck buys the PSP for Sonic Rivals!? Even then, why would none of those Sonic games make Nintendo Selects? Even Rayman Origins made that in Europe.
And none of the new Sonic games since Sonic Rush have sold well… at all. Even the hypocritical Nintards who would defend Epic Yarn’s piddly sales would say those piddly sales are crap for Sonic.
It’s possible that he’s going on about Sales Behavior and not raw sales. Sonic games making a million in under a year (while easy enough) is impressive for a franchise that has no appeal. But otherwise, for Sega especially, it’s pathetic. Why stop after a million? They wouldn’t need to make so many Sonic games if they were honestly selling well.
And if that was the case, why didn’t they port Generations to the Wii? Because it wasn’t HD. They were even thinking about ditching the fucking 3DS because they didn’t believe it would perform well (and they were right for the time being). What’s this “Nintendo is awesome” shit for now? You didn’t have that tune for Sonic 4 Episode 2! No space nigga! You thought Generations should be celebrated with GOOD GRAPHICS! Now it’s suddenly a problem? Lost Mind was going to be multiplatform. PC even! Obviously, Nintendo is paying you to suck them off because you wouldn’t give a fuck about the Pii U if they didn’t pay for exclusivity. Sega did NOT give a fuck about Sonic fans on Wii or DS after 2010. They still don’t now. Nintendo is the publisher of this damn game. That is the ONLY reason this is happening, and that Sega is up and suddenly taking note.
The Nintendo nut riding that Sega is doing can only foreshadow what is yet to come. Rumors this generation have been damned accurate, and this bit here is only making it official.
Idiot.
Only Nintendo developed games or Mario sports got Nintendo Selects on Wii. It wasn’t like a normal ‘Players Choice’. The only other ones that made it? Ubisoft games (and NOT Just Dance), and only in Europe. Clearly not normal.
By the way, DS doesn’t even HAVE a ‘Nintendo Selects’ line.
So you believe Wii’s install base is the only thing that made Sonic games sell better (wait, I thought the meme was that the only games the gradmas and babies that were Wii owners bought were Wii ‘Blank’s and Mario)? I guess that explains why Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog and both Riders sold better on Nintendo systems?
Also, nice try with Generations. Generations was moved from Wii to 3DS to be on Nintendo’s up and coming handheld and not their flickering console. Speaking of Generations, Colors outsold Generation across 2 platforms vs 5.
Way to ignore the insane sales of the Mario & Sonic series by the way. Isn’t the last one STILL selling in the UK?
Your revisionist history is laughable. Such an idiot. I personally would be fine with Nintendo buying Sega anyways (that is what you’re implying in that last line isn’t it?), but idiots like you would make it DELICIOUS for me.
>So you believe Wii’s install base is the only thing that made Sonic games sell better
As I get it, he doesn’t claim an install base as the only thing, he just reminds you about it.
>Colors outsold Generation across 2 platforms vs 5
Lies. Generations was on 4 platforms. Colors-2.66, Generations-2.81 millions. Well, 4 platforms that Generations needed to sold as much as Colors on 2 platforms one of which is handheld, renders Generations mediocre anyway.
>Isn’t the last one STILL selling in the UK?
Well, I don’t know. Is it just because it’s the last one?
>I guess that explains why Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog and both Riders sold better on Nintendo systems?
It can be about Nintendo versions of these games being programmed better.
You’re literally too stupid to insult. First off:
Only Nintendo developed games or Mario sports got Nintendo Selects on Wii. It wasn’t like a normal ‘Players Choice’. The only other ones that made it? Ubisoft games
You basically proved yourself wrong in your first paragraph via the claim of “nintendo games only get Nintendo Selects”.
Sonic Heroes sold 2 million on PS2, 1 million more than the Gamecube version. And Generations outsold Colors by 20k more units. Speaking of which, the 3DS was in worse shape than the Wii. They delayed software questioning the success of the platform. And considering that it sold the least amount of units in comparison to the PS3 and 360, they would’ve been better off making a downgraded version for the Wii anyway.
Oh the Olympics games which have been steadily decreasing in sales as they go on? Lagging interest in the franchise is nothing to write home about. And UK? Devs haven’t cared about the European market for a long time considering that market is minuscule in comparison to Japan even.
Then again, seeing your last bit was to get a mere reaction out of people, you weren’t worth the piss I wasted.
No, it’s the exception that proves the rule. If it was truly games that sold well, Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit and Just Dance (and a few other games) would have all gotten ‘Nintendo Selects’ ages ago but none of them ever did.
Where’s your install base argument for PS2? Guess it’s only a good one when it works towards your biased view huh?
Yes, and look where the 3DS is now, great job Sega, wasting all that time.
Decreasing in sales yet consistently staying in the top 40 of the UK for months if not a year on end. They all still blow everything else out of the water, and profit is profit. Your comment about devs not caring about Europe’s market is anecdotal at best yet also completely wrong as many games sell better over there than over here.
No, it’s not to get a rise out of people, I’m just vindictive as fuck.
Europe’s market has done nothing for Sega in over 2 decades. Likewise for Nintendo. Had that been the case, the Master System would’ve been considered a great success. Games “selling” over there doesn’t = devs caring about those markets. Sega doesn’t care about the North American market despite Sonic selling the most over here. SNK doesn’t care about Mexico even though KOF sells more and gets more love over there. Where you got that logic from, I have no idea.
If you must have an answer to the “install base” argument, PS2 owners simply had better games to choose from later on in their life-cycle where as Sonic was easily forgotten by all except the starved Nintendo fans who had to wait for any other 3rd party support on-hand. But why haven’t the Wii Sonic games sold nearly as well as the gamecube ones aside from the cross overs? Better software was available. Out of all the modern Sonic titles, Sonic Heroes on PS2 is the highest selling one as of now. Even the Mega Collection sold better on PS2. Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Riders selling more doesn’t change that fact.
Mario and Sonic at the Olympics is a poor example of measuring how well Sonic games sell on certain consoles due to the inclusion of Mario in the package. It’s not Sonic selling on it’s own merits. Sonic has no appeal in this age. Sonic is only appealing when put in a crossover with Mario. Mario is still appealing. True, they are profitable, but using a crossover to dictate that “well, Sonic only sells on Nintendo” when there’s proof of the complete opposite is a farce greater than Obamacare. Hell, both Sonic Rivals games on PSP sold more than Sonic Colors DS and Rush Adventure combined. Does that mean Sonic sells more on the PSP? Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed sold more on the 360. Does that mean Sonic sells more on 360?
As well, Sonic games started selling worse on the DS as better games came out. Wii included. When you have better games coming out, Sonic sells even less. The Olympics games haven’t seen the amount of success as the very… first… installment. And despite topping charts in the UK (which, in spite of your annoyance, is completely irrelevant), decreasing sales equate to decreasing interest. Meaning making more games in the future will lead to the same fate as many other games with endless sequels. MSOG will find itself curiously in the same pile as Mega Man and the endless mountain of Street Fighter 2 remixes.
But I do look forward to you using that last bit as a means of discrediting Rayman Origins making Nintendo Selects in Europe. Since all I do is make biased arguments.
