Remember that one Dynazenon anime i talked about?
It already came out on 2 April, and it’s currently on its 3rd episode.
Yomogi, the POV protagonist of the series, come across Gauma, a so-called Kaiju tamer. When he came across a kaiju he seemingly can’t control, he summoned the titular mecha, in the process getting Yomogi, Yume (Yomogi’s classmate and the token stoic chick among the group) and Koyomi (A neet) and his cousin Chise (Thought Chise didn’t join in piloting the mecha) involved in the process. Along the way, they also have to content with a group of so-called “Kaiju Eugenicists”, who can control kaiju like Gauma.
The story is basically a “The gang unfolds mystery surrounding the main premise as the plot progresses” anime like SSSS.Gridman, thought the mysteries are far less complicated and the show has closer ties to original Gridman. The troubled folks are in the spotlight this time (Yomogi’s mom divorced and is currently courting another man, and Yume’s older sister got into a car accident that killed her), and the protagonists are far less boring (Mostly Gauma, the quirkiest of the group).
Spoiler alert, Gauma has bandages under his jacket and Dynazenon is summoned from a small, Chinese dragon statue. Fans put two and two together and started guessing that he’s the mummy from ep. 18 of the original Gridman. The fact that he and the Eugenicists are stated to have died 5000 years ago only to inexplicably show up in present day in episode 3 didn’t help.
Speaking of shiz inspired by toku…
The Zero One movie is subbed!
https://ww3.kissasian.ai/drama/kamen-rider-zero-one-realtime-episode-1
FINALLY… Wait… EPISODE 1!? AWWWW DAMMIT!!! 😛
Ok, that movie was what I needed! It resolved damn near everything (even if cheaply done such as Aruto realizing he was being an ass to Izu).
villain and his story was also really… fucking… good. Kudos!
Then… Zero-One Others happened… and I haven’t a clue as to what the hell was going on! The Mavericks just went crazy at the end!? AND IT JUST ENDS!? But at least that diabolical bitch Azu is gone! 😛
Oh good lord, a Sonic Colors Remaster!? That’s even worse than Adventure Remakes!
I do like this one bit. ” I want it to be “modern” in the respect that I want it to be forward-thinking enough to be attractive and interesting to more people than just the same ones that keep buying Sonic games out of habit. Even Classic games can’t exist in some never-changing bubble.”
Even he’s tired of this bullshit pandering.
Note: There is a 4D ride at Universal Studios Japan where the EVAs battle Shin Godzilla…then the two team up to fight Shin King Ghidorah.

Even though Lost Mind is filled with many horrible… horrible attempts at “tension”, Sonic and Tails not arguing with each other because of their best friend status is unrealistic, even if they’ve never really had an argument in the games until Lost Mind. Hell, Tails has had complaints about Sonic way back in SA1
Characters In Depth gets it too! I remember Tails being actually brave, willing to take on enemies bigger than himself, and not getting into arguments like this. Sure he doesn’t have to agree with Sonic all the time, but this is so out of character.
And also, let’s not forget how Forces made him look like a coward. What happened to those days when Tails was willing to risk his life fighting Shadow if it meant protecting Cosmo? Or taking on Eggman all by himself after Sonic got ejected out of the ARK? That kind of great bravery?! Now he gets scared over Chaos’s primordial form!
BTW I have mixed thoughts about Sonic Forces, but still, there’s a bunch of things in it I don’t like. But on the other hand, it was sort of a step in the right direction for Sonic.
Forces was Tails’s worst portrayal thus far. Anyone remember when he took on an entire military force before he ever met sonic? Or took on a Wicked Witched on a cart?
Good… fucking… times. I miss the days when he could summon flickies to do his evil bidding. >_<
Directing action choreography from a single episode of Power Rangers Zeo to Ninja Storm (Along with serving as executive producer of Disney era seasons) is Koichi Sakamoto, best known for insane camera angles, fight scenes with emphasis on hand-to-hand combat that feels straight out of martial art flicks, and wire-fu (And if recent Japanese toku is anything to go by, female characters fighting with short shorts). Since then, he’s been working on Kamen Rider, Sentai, and Ultraman (Mostly Ultraman, such as the Ultra Galaxy movies, Ginga S, X, Geed and some episodes of Z)
Some Ultraman fight scenes he directed : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwLPZOI6ypg, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7zKoXP-xyA

First episode of Girl Gun Lady, which’s basically Battle Royale but a toku series with girls carrying model kit Shotrisers (And it’s directed by a dude who do Kanpai Senshi After V, a slice of life toku about a Sentai group hanging out in a restaurant while having mundane chats about their battles) is out
Something chuckleworthy i found while surfing twitter…
Is the Fire Emblem representation really that bad?
If the fact that Fire Emblem has 8 fighters representing the series isn’t obvious enough…

Wow, I… wow.
Not a single Custom Robo character, but wow.
Continuing the trend of Japanese kids show casting people with pre-existing fame…
Twokaiser (Oh-so-creatively named Zox Goldtweaker)’s actor is part of a J-Pop idol known as GENIC, who did the ending song for Fruits Basket’s final season.
Also, remember that one Romance of Three Kingdoms toku talked about by Marcos?
Gonna drop this here because i don’t want to clog up the comment section on the article after this, but i just discovered a manga adaptation of Digimon Xros Wars, the last Digimon anime (Appmon aside) before Toei indulged in Digimon Adventure nostalgia pandering. What’s interesting is that the manga is written by the same one that worked on Elemental Hunters, a Japanese-Korean edutainment Mons sci-fi series that teaches about chemistry (Think Spectrobes meet Day After Tomorrow). He did admit that he never a watch Digimon before being brought in to write the manga, so he have to study the franchise by watching previous series.
Xros Wars, specifically the anime, is basically the Gurren Lagann of Digimon, with the “Evil Digimon takes over Digital World, so the DigiDestined kick its ass” premise involving the Xros Heart army, led by the goggle-wearing protagonist Taiki, taking on Bagramon’s Bagra Army forces throughout the Digital World, now fractured into multiple Zones. Along the way, Xros Heart encounters Kiriha, the stoic weakling-hating leader of Blue Flare, and Nene, the enigmatic leader of the Twilight Army. The main gimmick of the show is DigiXros, Gurren Lagann-style fusion between various Digimon to create snazzy new forms and powerups. In case you didn’t watch the anime, here’s Billiam (Who also did other Digimon shows, up to Tri and Last Evolution Kizuna)’s retrospective of the series : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqsJPmPpw5E
Xros Wars has arguably the lowest ratings compared to other Digimon series, with the only reason the show lasting three seasons (Two main seasons and a Boy Hunters Who Leapt Through Time) coming from decent merchandise sales (Except for Boy Hunters, which existed supposedly only to fill the timeslot until Saint Seiya Omega came out in 2012)
The manga version, while sharing the same premise as the anime, diverges into its own plot, incorporating elements from more recent Digimon anime, such as the Royal Knights, King Drasil (Or Yggdrasil if one prefer Japanese dubs) and even Homeostasis.
Taiki’s helping-everybody-without-care-about-myself shonen hero personality have some explanation in the manga: Back in the past, he used to indulge in a lot of things that tickled his fancy, usually involving others in the process. At one point, he got one of his friends into track meet and the two become best buddies, but all the running they have together cost his friend the place in the track team due to muscle ruptures, making Taiki suffering from survivor’s guilt. Since then, he’s been helping other kids with their problems (With Akari, his childhood friend, managing his time). Luckily, he manages to reconnect with said friend and get over his guilt during a brief time he and his Digimon partners travelled back to the human world.
Kiriha’s personality is changed to a more ruthless character; he who wanted Taiki to be his subordinate in Blue Flare (At one point even attempting to kill his Xros Heart friends to break his spirit), before settling to become his lifelong rival. He has strong hatred of ‘modern people’, due to his strong respect for his father, a wealthy businessman who managed to amass a large fortune in a generation. When he died, his brothers fought over the inheritance instead of, you know, do something about their father’s business. In his youth, Kiriha read a lot about military arts, in the process developing a strong amount of respect for people who willingly throw their lives away for the sake of their ambitions.
Why Nene ended up in the Digital World is expanded : She and her younger sister and only blood relative Kotone (Instead of younger brother Yuu in the anime) came across a baby Sparrowmon and went to the Digital World to help her. However, Kotone fell ill during the journey, forcing her to work under Bagra Army to find a way to help her sister. In the process, SkullKnightmon supposedly sealed away her emotions, enabling her to commit unspeakable crimes during her tenure as a member of Bagra Army. Turns out the truth is more complicated than that…
SkullKnightmon, Bagramon’s brother, actually manipulated Nene during her time as a member of Bagra Army: He planted a Shademon in her shadow, who feeds from her desperation to save her sister. His ultimate goal is to have Shademon feed on both Taiki and Nene’s Xros Codes (Which enabled them to use their XrosLoader Digivices, kinda like Data Squad’s DNA Charges) to create a Darkness Loader, a malice-powered XrosLoader capable of fusing Digimon without limits (And consent from the fused Digimon). With Kotone, not Nene, as his general (Because Kotone has a strong Xros Code inside her, thought she just isn’t strong enough to handle it), he intended to DigiXros with a massive collection of Digimon within his castle to gain massive amount of power.
Then Blue Flare and Xros Heart launched an assault on SkullKnightmon’s castle. During the ensuing chaos, Nene DigiXros herself with Shademon to protect her sister, creating Shademon Darkness Mode. She proceeds to DigiXros most of the imprisoned Digimon in the castle into Machinedramon and Kimeramon, before fusing them into Milleniumon, a near unstoppable reality-warping monstrosity from the Wonderswan Digimon games (The ones that explained who the heck Ryo is and how he ended up in the Tamers universe). Luckily, Taiki and Kiriha manages to Digivolve Shoutmon and Greymon (Yes, Kiriha’s Digimon partner is a Greymon) into OmniShoutmon and ZekeGreymon, pushing Milleniumon into a space between dimensions (Because there’s no way they can permanently defeat it thanks to its regenerative abilities)
Bagramon, the main villain, has arguably the biggest change compared to his anime counterpart: Originally an archangel serving under Homeostasis, he questioned the law of the Digital World of “good Digimon is born good, evil Digimon is born evil” (Especially since his brother SkullKnightmon is born evil, so he ended up scorned and resented by the world). When Homeostasis just went “We can only observe and see the outcome”, Bagramon rebelled, resulting in him banished and losing half of his body. He discovered the remains of King Drasil (Who used to govern Digital World, only to went berserk and got punched into oblivion by Marcus and Agumon in the finale of Data Squad), and used it to reconstruct his body’s missing half. He went to cause the events of the series by conquering the Digital World and bringing the kids there, all as part of a game to see if human hearts are capable of overcoming despair.
Prior to the start of the series, Homeostasis predicted that a black and red dragon will bring oblivion to the Digital World. Because the prediction is so vague, the Royal Knights set out to find the red and black dragon (They initially assumed it’s Belphemon and Leviamon, two of the Seven Great Demon Digimon), in the process leaving them caught offguard by Bagra Army’s invasion. Omnimon in particular got into a battle with Bagramon and Tactimon, (One of Bagramon’s Three Great Generals alongside Lilithmon and Blastmon), that resulted in his death, with his code inherited by Shoutmon (Which explains why his Digivolved form is called OmniShoutmon)
During a climactic battle that saw the Xros Heart and Blue Flare (Along with the Royal Knights and a massive army of various Digimon Xros Heart came across months aftert the assault on SkullKnightmon’s castle, most of which from previous Digimon series such as Agunimon, Kazemon, BanchoLeomon, and others), Bagramon come to a grim conclusion that despair is the future of Digital World after he come face-to-face with his brother, driven insane to the point he can’t recall his own name from DigiXrosing with so many Digimon (Including Lilithmon and Blastmon).
He ordered Shademon to DigiXros the now-insane SkullKnightmon with Milleniumon he snatched from the space between dimensions, creating ZeedMilleniumon (The black and red dragon whose advent is predicted by Homeostasis) to destroy the Digital World. Because Shademon (And Nene) is inside serving as the beast’s core, Taiki, Kiriha, Kotone and Taiki’s human companions dived into ZeedMilleniumon to save her (And hopefully stop the Digimon in the process). They saved her (By Kiriha admitting his love for Nene, kinda like the climax of Samurai Jack’s Season 5) and split ZeedMilleniumon back into its component Digimon. In the process, Shademon Digivolved into Luminamon before splitting off from Nene (Thanks to the sliver of hope from Bagramon unknowingly planted deep inside Shademon from his doubts regarding his plans)
What followed is an epic final battle that saw all the participating Digimon (Except for those who’re already Mega level, like the Royal Knights) regaining their long-lost ability to Digivolve and kicking the ass of UltimateChaosmon and hordes of Megidramon and Algomon (The latter coming from a Japanese-exclusive Digimon Data Squad movie) that emerged from ZeedMilleniumon’s defeat. Sadly, Bagramon lost his life protecting SkullKnightmon.
Once all is said and done, Taiki and his friends are forced to say goodbye to their Digimon Partners. However, Taiki promised to Shoutmon that he’ll have adventures with him again after he achieved his own dreams. The last scenes of the manga saw Shoutmon forming his own band and finally achieving his dream of rocking out for all Digimon across the Digital World to hear, something he alluded to at the beginning of the story. As Shoutmon sings Butterfly (The Japanese opening song for the original Digimon Adventure anime), there are scenes of SkullKnightmon and Luminamon wandering the Digital World, and Lilithmon and Blastmon mourning over Bagramon’s death (Lilithmon is hit the hardest because she loved Bagramon).
BTW, this is how Shademon Darkness Mode looks like (Considering the manga has lesser restrictions compared to anime) :
