Yep, it is confirmed, Sega is going into character creation territory. And by that bit of news, I have… nothing negative to say, this is actually pretty cool!

Mind you, i’m a sucker for character creation, it is the only thing Soul Calibur has going for it. As it stands, no one bemoans the ability to make their own characters. It gives any game more lasting appeal if you ask me. If I’m being honest, this is one the smarter things Sega concocted for a Sonic game. Now Forces is officially more appealing than Mania!

Granted, they don’t really show it at it’s best and decided to put glasses on the default character. Yeah, that’s how you market it by putting some 4-eyed jackass as the demo character! And I’m a bit concerned. The CaC seems limited to a homing attack and *shudders* gadgets. Holy shit, this really is Shadow the Hedgehog!!!

Fuck Wisps. But… yeah. This is actually a good gimmick! It’s not something that gameplay is dependent upon, and is a feature that i’m sure people will love at the very least.

I just hope the CaC isn’t limited to shitty gadgets and you can apply actual powers. Or the actual CaC isn’t limited to mammals. I saw nothing in regards to reptiles or birds. I also hope they don’t think this excuses the lack of playable Tails and Knuckles. It’ll probably cut out most of the bitching, sure. But I’m already seeing people shit on this feature so….

This is Sonic 4/Colors all over again, isn’t it? The retro throwback being less interesting than the modern game, that is.

This all being said, you know people are going to want some role-playing elements. Simply having an OC sidelined from the plot could be the worst they can do at this point.

EDIT

So far, there are only 7 animal types.

Bear — Blows away enemies with a homing attack

Bird — Flies high with double jump abilities

Cat — Keeps one ring after being hit

Dog — Restarts with five rings after the player dies

Hedgehog — Collects rings when getting damaged

Rabbit — Has longer invincible time after receiving damage

Wolf — Automatically draws in rings when near them

So, no reptiles, foxes, echidnas, or any other beasts. A damn shame.

Thanx Asia!
